The world of photography extends well beyond the current, overwhelming dominance of digital cameras and smartphones. The “Film Group” is composed of HPS members who are interested in film photography, the look and feel of vintage cameras and lenses, handmade prints, and experimental and alternative processes. Moving beyond a purely digital approach opens a wide range of opportunities that encourage creativity using our hands rather than a computer. The craft of film, vintage cameras, and alternative processes attract many photographers looking for a more tangible medium. There is also the richness and depth of a silver and alternative process print that cannot be reproduced on a computer screen or with a digital print.
We meet monthly to share what we are working on and encourage each other to pursue our passion. There is no competition.
Our interests cover a wide range of topics, including film, vintage 35mm, medium and large format cameras, pin hole cameras, lomography, and printing with silver gelatin, cyanotype, platinum/palladium, Van Dyke brown, gum bichromate, and carbon transfer.
