Who we are and how to join us
Who we are
We promote the art and science of photography in Huntsville, Alabama and surrounding areas through informative programs, contests, and special events.
We meet on the second and fourth Monday of every month. At the first meeting of each month a guest speaker is invited to make a presentation on a specific aspect of photography. At the second monthly meeting we hold a photo contest built around a specific theme. Each month an external judge is invited to critique and rate the contest entries, providing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners with honorable mentions.
Can I join you?
Absolutely. If you enjoy photography and would like to learn more about it and share your knowledge, we invite you to join us by coming to our meetings. You may also want to become a member of the society.
Do I have to be a member?
You do not need to be a member to attend monthly meetings. You do, however, need to register to have complete access to this website and you need to be a member to enter photos in the competitions.
How do I become a member?
You may register by following the links below. You may become a member by registering and paying the annual dues, again by following the appropriate link below.

How to Register and Pay Membership Dues
Registration and Dues Rates: Individual: $30 / yr Family: $45.00 / yr Student: $15.00 / yr
Dues cover membership for one full year from the date of payment.
Student Membership: Full privileges at a reduced rate for students under the age of 25.
Family Membership: For family members living in the same household.
We highly recommended that you pay dues using PayPal as described below. If you prefer to not pay online, you can contact the Treasurer using the link below to make arrangements to send a check payable to Huntsville Photographic Society. Or you can contact the Treasurer at a regular meeting.
The Individual, Family, and Student buttons below link to a PayPal “subscription” page. This is the most convenient option for the Society, and hopefully for you. Click on the button that corresponds to the membership that you wish to establish (e.g. Individual). This will take you to the PayPal page where you can pay the designated amount for that memberhip level. This includes an auto-renew option after one full year to make it easy for you to stay active.
IMPORTANT: After you have finished with the PayPal payment, please click on the “Return to Mechant” button at the bottom of the PayPal page. Within a few minutes you will receive an email with a link to a registration page that will allow you to complete your registration. This lets us know who just paid their dues. If you do not do this, your dues payment will not be associated with a membership account. If you do not recieve an email, please let us know.
FAMILY ACCOUNTS: Please note that if you establish a Family account, we will need unique emails for each member of the family in order to set up separate accounts for each. Please contact the Treasurer with this information after setting up the initial Family account. Contact Treasurer
Your registration will be “pending” until payment has been verified. This usually takes no more than a few hours. If you attempt to login at this time, you will be informed that your account is pending. You should receive an email when your account is upgraded to “active”. If for some reason you do not receive an email, you could check to see if you can log in, or you can contact us for help.
Note: If you are already a member with a PayPal subscription account, your membership will be automatically renewed each year by PayPal. If you desire to change this (without automatic renewal), you can do so by modifying your PayPal account.
If you do not maintain an active status by paying your dues (either through PayPal or to the Treasurer), your account will be deactivated at the end of the current membership year, and you will be unable to access member-only pages (including the ability to upload photos for competitions). You will still be able to log in. This is to allow you to renew your membership as a logged in member. In this way all of your account settings will be maintained and become active upon paying your dues. If you are an inactive member and would like to become active, log in and to go the Membership Renewal page under Login/logout.

Web site access:
After you have paid dues online using PayPal and completed the registration page, you will be given full privileges and access to the “member only” sections of this website (e.g. competition entries). This process typically takes only minutes to complete. If you choose the pay-by-check option, your account will be made active with full member privileges once we receive payment. We will notify you by email when this occurs.
